Strategic Initiatives, Research and Innovation (SIRI) leads and coordinates private giving efforts in support of central priorities.

The University of Oregon Office of Advancement, in coordination with the Office of Research and Innovation established the Strategic Initiatives, Research and Innovation (SIRI) unit to lead fundraising efforts for faculty-led research, innovation and strategic initiatives. SIRI is designed to (1) promote strategic thinking and entrepreneurship in pursuit of funding; (2) unify and hold accountable specific members of the Office of Advancement involved in securing funding for these initiatives; (3) assure key external stakeholders and supporters that the institution stands ready to maximize and leverage their financial support.

A “strategic initiative” is a central (non-unit-based) priority designed to have a transformational effect on the institution that will benefit

multiple units and individuals.  UO’s current campaign includes several priorities that function as strategic initiatives including enhancing academic and research excellence and capacity and the Faculty Clusters of Excellence hiring initiative.

SIRI is responsible for leading and coordinating all private giving efforts in support of strategic initiatives.  In addition, SIRI functions as the lead fundraising unit for the Office of Research and Innovation.  Within the Office of Advancement, SIRI operates as a collaborative partner with school/college-based development teams seeking support from private foundations, engaging corporate partners and aligning unit-based donor opportunities with centralized priorities.  Within the Office of Research and Innovation, SIRI actively collaborates with units such as Research Development Services to find alignment between federally funded projects/programs and private support.

SIRI Mission Statement: To work collaboratively with UO leadership, faculty and staff to increase philanthropic support to research, innovation and university priorities designed to transform the institution.
